Mosaic Making BIG Progress

$100,000 Gift from the Ida Bryan Estate

Mosaic Tea has received a gift of $100,000 from DCCer Ida Bryan as part of her estate giving. This amazing gift has been designated for renovation of the Fellowship Hall kitchen, bathrooms and the addition of a point-of-sale for Mosaic.

Ida was a faithful DCC member who, earlier in life, left her native Denmark for America and ended up in California. In Davis, and especially toward the end of her life, Ida found a home at DCC: the church walked with her through a divorce and struggles with her faith; DCC helped her move from her home to Covell Gardens; one of our elders helped her with her finances; and at the end, our people journeyed with her toward a death with dignity.

Knowing her own deep need for support and belonging, Ida often visited DCC friends in need; she served Brown Bag Lunches to the unsheltered and food-insecure in Davis; she was grateful for the courage of DCC to initiate and sustain the Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter; and she embraced the vision of Mosaic Tea and Coffee. Finally, she loved the “pay-it-forward” gift-economy concept for Mosaic, seeing it as a truly revolutionary and gospel-centered way to make a business model that is inclusive of all God’s children

UC Davis Global Tea Initiative

Mosaic Tea has met with the leaders of the new UC Davis Global Tea Initiative which will “bring the university’s premier research in agriculture, health, science, humanities and social science to bear on the study of tea.” Mosaic is currently working to formalize a partnership between the two organizations. With the addition of GTI, Mosaic is poised to be a model of city/university collaboration.
